Winter Outing: Trumpeter Swans at Hiram, AR

January 18 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm CST

Join us to photograph the beautiful migrating swans while they winter in Arkansas.

This Saturday a “leaderless group” of us are going to photograph the Trumpeter Swans and you’re welcome to join us.

This is an excellent photo opportunity for wildlife in AR as the swans only migrate here a few months out of the year. Generally they’ll start leaving in February.
What to Carry:
Lens: a telephoto zoom lens is preferred. The swans are used to people and will come close to us. However, most flights will happen far from the shore. Ideally a range up to 300mm or above. Longer the better.
Something to kneel/lie on that is waterproof. Only required if you would like to capture eye level images.
Rain gear. There is a chance of rain this weekend.
Tripod is not required but some might find useful – especially to stabilize larger lenses.
Date and Time:
Meet at 3:30PM on Saturday January 18th. It’s not a larger area so you’ll see other photographers there.
LOCATION:
Hiram Road just outside Hiram, Arkansas
East Pond

Please Donate!
There are donation boxes on both ponds that go towards the bird’s seed and to maintain the ponds. Please donate!
East Pond:
Taking off or landing shots are easier to capture on the east pond as they always fly to the far side of the pond. You are able to kneel or lie down to capture eye level images.
West Pond:
This pond has a dark background for more contrast with the swans. However, you are not able to get to water level resulting in all images being shot down at the swans – unless they are flying.
